The petition, signed by over 2,000 students, highlights key issues surrounding the hygiene and cleanliness of roads and footpaths in the school’s vicinity

The students and staff of The Shri Ram Universal School, Hyderabad have taken a proactive stand for their community by signing a petition during the Ozone Run 2024, urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address the growing sanitation concerns in their area. The petition, signed by over 2,000 students, highlights key issues surrounding the hygiene and cleanliness of roads and footpaths in the school’s vicinity.

As part of the Ozone Run 2024 initiative, the school has collaborated with other institutions across the city to identify critical sanitation problems that pose risks to public health and safety. The primary concerns outlined in the petition include improper waste disposal near the school, which causes foul odors, mosquito infestations, and the presence of street pigs in the area. The lack of regular trash clearance exacerbates these issues, particularly during the monsoon and winter seasons, affecting students, staff, and local residents alike.

Speaking on the occasion, Rtn. Dr. Jyothi Reddy, Founder Principal & Director of Education at The Shri Ram Universal School, expressed the school’s dedication to creating a safer, cleaner environment: “We believe that by actively engaging in such initiatives, our students learn valuable lessons about community responsibility. We are committed to working with GHMC to ensure a healthier future for our students and the larger community.”

The petition also proposes potential solutions and encourages a dialogue between the school and GHMC to explore ways in which students can further contribute to the city’s cleanliness efforts. The school aims to actively participate in organizing cleanup drives and promoting awareness around environmental sustainability.

The Ozone Run 2024 was a grand success, bringing together thousands of participants, including students, families, and community leaders, in a collective effort to raise awareness about environmental issues. Shri Jagadeeswar Goud, MLA Contestant from Serilingampally, and Mr. Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner, graced the event, underscoring the importance of public engagement in improving city hygiene.

The event’s success is owed to the vision and hard work of its founders: Ms. Bilvoa Vunnam, Ms. Teerdha Vunnam, Mrs. Meghana Musunuri, and Mr. Sridhar Vunnam, who have been instrumental in blending environmental responsibility with community engagement through the Ozone Run.

In addition, the event saw tremendous support from sponsors such as Am Green – Greenko Group, Oasis School, 7 Seas Entertainment, Dhanu Construction, and Sumo Biscuits, whose contributions played a vital role in ensuring the seamless execution of the event.

The Shri Ram Universal School remains steadfast in its mission to be an active part of the city’s environmental efforts and looks forward to continued collaboration with GHMC and other stakeholders for a cleaner, more sustainable Hyderabad.
