For the Ones Who Built Me: Ridhhima Mohan Receives National Award in Education

Education

Ridhhima Mohan, founder of Ridhhima’s Academy, has been honoured with the APJ Abdul Kalam Award in Education 2025, a national recognition for her groundbreaking work in nurturing children through public speaking, creative writing, and academic mentorship.

Her academy, based in Panchkula, has empowered students as young as seven to publish books, launch podcasts, win international writing and speaking competitions, and build Ivy League–ready portfolios. Her approach—equal parts creativity, courage, and clarity—has redefined what student excellence looks like in the 21st century.

In a recent interview, Mohan reflected on the journey behind the recognition.

“This award is more than a milestone—it’s a reflection of the people, values, and moments that built me,” she said.

At the heart of that foundation are her parents, Priyanka and Virendra Mohan. “Whatever strength I have comes from the values they instilled in me. My mother may no longer be physically here, but her wisdom remains my compass. My father’s unwavering presence has been my grounding force through it all.”

She credits much of her professional philosophy to The Gurukul, where she studied and later taught—an experience she describes as “formative and foundational.”

“The Gurukul shaped me both as a learner and a leader,” she said. At the centre of that chapter was Mrs. Harsimran Kaur, Principal of the school.

“She wasn’t just a mentor—she was a mirror. She demanded excellence with grace, and held space with authority and heart. Her example taught me how to lead a classroom, and eventually, an institution.”

She also acknowledged Sonia Goel, a long-time friend and guide.

“Sonia Ma’am has been one of the quiet constants in this journey. Her presence—steady, warm, and wise—has been a source of perspective and strength when I needed it most.”

But above all, Mohan says the real reason she continues to strive is her daughter.

She is the reason I am who I am. Everything I build, I build with her in my heart. She reminds me daily to be braver, kinder, and more alive.

Beyond personal gratitude, Mohan spoke passionately about her vision for education. Education, to me, is not about producing toppers—it’s about raising thinkers, creators, leaders, and truth-speakers. It’s about helping children know themselves, speak for themselves, and stand by what they believe, she said.

She believes the current system leaves too little space for voice and individuality. “Children are often taught to fit in before they’re ever taught how to think. At Ridhhima’s Academy, we reverse that. First we give them the mic—then we help them sharpen their message.”

Looking ahead, Mohan is expanding the academy globally with certified programs, international educator partnerships, and the launch of the Ridhhima’s Academy Certified Public Speaker credential—designed to support students’ academic and career growth on a global stage.

“The greatest victory,” she says, “is seeing a child find their voice—and realising it has power. That’s when you know your work matters.”
