New Delhi [India], December 15: Sardar Vallabhbhai Global University (SVGU) has successfully organised its First Convocation Ceremony on Sunday at its campus. The maiden convocation ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Hon’ble Ambassador Sujan R. Chinoy — Director General, Manohar Parrikar Defence Research Institute & Analysis (MP-DRIA), New Delhi, along with SVGU President Sri Siddharth Patel (MBA, University of Dallas, USA), Provost Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Brahmbhatt (renowned Indologist) and Registrar Dr Mayur Shah.

Of the 340 postgraduate students, 25 gold medallists from Management, Computer Applications and Journalism & Communication were conferred degrees by the Ho’ble Chief Guest.

Addressing the august gathering, Mr Chinoy, who was born and brought up in Kathiyad, Rajkot, surprised everyone with his welcome in Gujarati, Kem Chho, Majja Maa (How are you? All good). This allowed him to trace back and reminisce about his days in Gujarat, especially Ahmedabad, from where he completed his Master of Business Administration in 1978-80.

Mr Chinoy touched upon a number of sectors in his address, ranging from academic, administrative, strategic defence (national and international) to personal and professional areas. He also outlined the Indian legacy in the field of culture, literature and rich history.

He further stated, “The convocation is an end as well as a beginning as it takes you to a new journey which path you have to define, choose and walk with confidence, pride with greater sense of ethical values and a conscious sound mind”, addressing the first batch of graduating students.”

In addition, he outlined, “Each one of you has immense potential, the world is looking up to you, and it’s in your grasp to make Viksit Bharat by 2047, which India is aiming for. Always look at the future with great hope and aspiration.”

Awarding the degrees to the graduating batch of students, SVGU President Sri Siddharth Patel said, “Today on this occasion, I am directed by the Controller of Examination, and as President of the University, I declare 340 postgraduate students to have been declared graduates. Of them all, 201 are from MBA, 133 are from MCA, and six are from MAMC.”

“Success is defined by the impact you make in society. So, when you go out as graduates from SVGU, walk with confidence, keep your conscious mind alert and make a positive impact on society at large.”

In his 12 minutes 56 seconds of address, he spoke at length about various initiatives this university has taken since its inception on April 23, 2023, including aligning courses with the New Education Policy 2020 and introducing technology-driven new and emerging programmes. And to facilitate it all, adding infrastructure in place, so that construction is on the right path.

Taking the baton ahead of awarding degrees to the students, SVGU Provost Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Brahmbhatt outlined, “Today isn’t merely a ceremonial gathering; it marks the birth of a tradition and the foundation of a lasting legacy. The moment will be remembered for generations, and at its heart stands our first postgraduate graduating batch, the pioneers who will forever be associated with the beginnings of the university”.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Sri Narhari Amin, GLS University President Sri Sudhir Nanavati, MLAs, VCs, Educationists and various renowned personalities from different walks of life, including parents and family members of the graduating students.

The maiden convocation ceremony marked a significant milestone in the SVGU’s academic journey and reaffirmed its commitment to educational excellence and unmatched leadership.

The Chief Guest, Mr Chinoy, is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer and career diplomat (1981 to 2018) turned policy expert and think-tank. During his 37-year illustrious career, Mr Chinoy has been appointed Ambassador to Japan and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (2015–2018), Mexico and High Commissioner to Belize (2012–2015) and Consul General of India in Shanghai (China) and Sydney (Australia). Moreover, he has been on Indian missions in New York (United Nations), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Hong Kong and Beijing.
