Ketan Shah, Managing Director of Ravi Group, today unveiled an ambitious project called “Digital Gram,” aimed at bridging the digital divide in rural Maharashtra. This innovative initiative seeks to transform 100 villages into tech-savvy communities over the next three years.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Shah explained, “India’s heart beats in its villages. ‘Digital Gram’ is our effort to sync this heartbeat with the digital age.” He elaborated that the project will focus on providing internet connectivity, digital literacy, and e-governance solutions to selected villages.

The 500-crore rupee project will establish a ‘Digital Center’ in each village, equipped with high-speed internet, computers, and training facilities. Local youth will be trained as ‘Digital Champions’ to help their communities navigate the online world.

Maharashtra’s Rural Development Minister, Girish Mahajan, welcomed the initiative, stating, “Mr. Shah and Ravi Group’s commitment to rural development is commendable. ‘Digital Gram’ could be a game-changer for our villages.”

Shah emphasized that ‘Digital Gram’ goes beyond just providing technology. The project includes plans to set up e-health clinics, offering telemedicine services to villagers. Additionally, each village will have an ‘AgriTech Hub’ where farmers can access information on modern farming techniques, weather forecasts, and market prices.

Rural development expert Dr. Sudha Rao called the project “a new dawn for rural India.” She added, “This initiative shows how the private sector can play a crucial role in rural development.”

Shah also announced that Ravi Group will invest in solar power plants for these villages, ensuring stable electricity supply for digital infrastructure. “We’re not just digitizing villages; we’re creating sustainable digital ecosystems,” he stated.

The project’s first phase, covering 25 villages, is set to begin in February 2025. Shah shared a personal moment, saying, “My grandfather came from a small village. Today, as I announce this project, I feel I’m fulfilling his dream of seeing his village prosper.”

‘Digital Gram’ represents not just a new chapter for Ravi Group, but a significant step towards digital transformation of rural India. Under Ketan Shah’s leadership, Ravi Group is once again demonstrating how business success and social responsibility can go hand in hand, potentially setting a new model for rural development in India.
